I met a very compassionate young boy
Several months ago now, on a pet rescue
Since then, he has asked me many questions
His questions, and my responses, make him blue
“Why do people keep throwing away their nice pets?”
“How come so many people are mean to dogs and cats?”
“They said in school, that the bees and butterflies are dying,
What’s causing it? And did you hear about all the dead bats?”
And now, he’s been asking me about the recent oil disaster
He wants to know what he can do to help oil-covered birds
“Are you gonna go back there, and help rescue more animals?”
“Is everything gonna die? I’m real sad, for animals in the world.”
His many questions make me extremely sad, for his young generation
I try to explain what’s happening, so that he can hopefully comprehend
I tell him, that the world needs many more kids like him, to make it better
And my heart breaks for this young boy, since he worries about Earth’s end
I can sadly see myself, in this young lad, who loves nature and animals
I also realize how extremely fortunate I was, when I was a boy, like him
Fifty years ago, I didn’t have to experience things, that he sees daily now
And I sadly wonder, if God will forgive mankind, for our modern day sins
I met a very compassionate young boy,
Several months ago now, during a pet rescue;
Since then, he has asked me numerous questions,
And I realize that my responses, make both of us blue.

And they try very diligently, to do what they know is right.

Someone, who once claimed to be my friend, called me "simple minded" for thinking in such a way. I'll take that as a compliment.
And let us not forget that we are one of those animals. That is why I keep saying, "Let us turn to God." But that means we are the custodians of the earth. Right now and for many years we are failing.
