Shelter From The Storm

“Raindrops on the windshield,

There's a storm now movin in;

He's headin' back from somewhere,

That he never should have been.”

Garth Brooks,

The Thunder Rolls

There’s nothing quite like a thunderstorm

To make you realize, how small you are

I was out on the lake, in my fishing boat

When I spotted bright lightning, from afar

The wind began howling, fierce and angry

Thunder started booming, out to the west

I knew, it would soon be heading my way

I cranked up the engine, donning my life vest

I had ventured far from safety, across the massive lake

Now I feared it would take me forever, to get back there

Thunderous booms, and gigantic thunderbolts, filled the sky

Very quickly, pounding, drenching rain, was now everywhere

Suddenly, I couldn’t even see where I was going

I prayed my navigational memory, would be right

As I raced for what I thought was the correct harbor

A sunny spring afternoon, had become black as night

Somehow, I managed to get back to the right mooring

Through the rocking, rolling, white-capped, lake waves

I hurriedly tied up my little boat, and then I ran like hell

Mother Nature was reminding me that I wasn’t so brave

As I burst into the cabin door, drenched from head to toe

My dogs rushed up to me, each of them panting, like mad

We huddled on the cabin floor, riding out this fierce storm

Thankful to be together, and for our shelter, extremely glad

There’s nothing quite like a thunderstorm,

To make you realize, how small you are;

I was out on the lake, in my fishing boat,

When I spotted bright lightning, from afar.

It shows Ed that God do watch over us and it is a good thing he does.

You left out the part where mean tall woman beats the crap out of you and ups your life insurance policy. Lightning on a lake, and you're the rod. Patrick

Top visuals. Yet why not see the storm out if you're only on a lake. Sounds like brill fun on the edge to me.

Ain't you got no sense, going out on a big lake in a small boat is totally crazy...Glad you made it in, but you deserve to be smacked down by your wife, doing something that stupid...[sure, I used to go out in the ocean, 20 miles from shore, in a 13 foot leaky plywood boat, but then I was alot younger and thought I would live forever...;-) ] You just wait till ma reads this...you will get it for sure then...Ed (& i'd pay good, real money to watch her give it to ya...LOL)

Yes I have sailed across the Bra Dor Lakes in Cape Breton in the midst of a full scale squall with thunder, lighting, and high windows and riding full canvas. I have to say though standing in the bow holding to the rigging...I never felt more alive...

We had this same type of storm two days ago here in Connecticut..The lightning was spectacular! I was heading into the grocery store and everyone was in a panic and all I kept saying to fearful customers, aren't thunderstorms beautiful and exciting..they looked at me like I had two heads or something...People really need to relax and enjoy what Mother Nature gives us...
Blessings Ed, and thank goodness you got off that lake in time!!

Much peace, love and light,
Amber

Words well said Ed. I love storms, but I love them from inside. That would've been a frightening experience!
