All Five Oil Executive Suits
Most Congressional hearings are a farce
But I admit, I'll often watch them anyway
This one, with clueless oil executives in suits
Was quite revealing, in so many different ways
All of the suits, from the other major oil companies
Like predators, quickly turned on their competitor, BP
They can’t wait to get approval, for their own deep drilling
“Why, Congressmen, unlike BP, we pride ourselves on Safety!”
But when prodded on what their own deep water safety measures are
Every one of them admitted, they don’t know how to stop deep leaks
“But we’re sure our safety mechanisms are much better than BP’s!”
As they all now eagerly await new deep water drilling permits, they seek
And their non-answer, when asked about the massive IXTOC spill in Mexico
Should now fill every single American still chanting ‘Drill, Baby, Drill,’ with fear
Not a one of them, was even able to recall that massive oil spill, back in 1979
To them, spills are just a ‘way of life,’ while coveting the profits they hold dear
And, if and when this current horrendous oil spill in our Gulf, is ever finally stopped
The same Congressmen now acting very outraged, will again, accept their donations
To fund their next campaigns, as they pressure their colleagues, to issue more permits
Neither these oil exec in suits, nor these ‘for show’ hearings, should give anyone elation
That massive IXTOC oil spill, back in 1979, down in old Mexico
Took Over Nine Months To Stop, In a Blowout, Only 160 Feet Deep
This current one, is more than a mile deep, under our Gulf’s Coast’s surface
And they don’t really care if it takes a year to stop – they won’t lose any sleep
