“Life is not fair,

Nor has it ever been,

But the morning seems

Determined to dawn.”

Robert Brault

It had been a difficult delivery

For Little Lupita, our latest stray

It took her four hours, to give birth

I saw both life, and death, yesterday

After a very restless and sleepless night

She began having her first pup at 5 A.M.

I had to help her severe its umbilical cord

An hour later, it was time, to deliver again

This second birth, was not as difficult

But an hour later, another baby was born

This one, never even got to greet the dawn

Our Little Lupita’s third, was sadly stillborn

I thought this third one, would be her last

But an hour later, number four now arrived

Soon, her three remaining newborn puppies

Were nursing, as I looked into Lupita’s eyes

She watched me carry away her stillborn baby

I don’t care what anyone says, animals feel, too

As I buried this infant, under the old cherry tree

I knew she and I, were now, both happy and blue

It had been a difficult delivery,

For Little Lupita, our latest stray;

It took her four hours, to give birth,

We both saw life, and death, yesterday.

But she’s already a marvelous mother,

To her truly adorable remaining three.

DEAR GRANDPA PEEWEE ...

Were the 3 girls or boys?

Wanna know if the CIGARS you send me will be wrapped in Pink or Blue

Congratulations Grandpa Ed. Lucky for Lupita she had you on PAW as midwife to help her in her time of need. What a shame about the stillborn - but Nature knows best - and there is probably a good reason why three out of four survived.

great poem - as always.

love your friend, Pauline xxx www.thedailymews.com

good one Ed, my wifes poodle had four babies while we were out of town, the prettiest one didn't make it, I think she layed on it and smothered it to death, cheers

Lupita is so lucky that she "strayed" in your direction. Else, one still born might well have been more. Congratulations to one and all. Dick

Doctor Ed did all he could do. And without getting too cute, and with the greatest of respect, when you consider the original Lupita rescue equation, as Meatloaf once said, three out of four ain't bad. Patrick

Oh yes, they feel, Ed, that I know for sure.
An occasion to be sad and to rejoice, such are the blends of living and dying.

Celebrations to Lupita and the babies. Tears for the one God chose to keep. Yes, I dare anyone to say animals do not have feelings because I have known for years, first hand, they do! Oh how I wish I lived closer because I would take a female pup in a heartbeat! God bless and may they all find good homes...

Be always safe,
Karen
