A Follow-Up To My Poem,

‘Dog In Hell’

“Every dog should have his day.”

Jonathan Swift

I found him in a dirty dark alley

We humans, had abandoned him

Starving, and plagued with parasites

Modern cruelty, had nearly done him in

I transported him to a marvelous veterinary hospital

Where they have now transformed this throw-away

What a difference, some tender loving care can make

And now, I am determined, to find him a home today

He is truly a sweet dog, harboring no malice or viciousness

He was abysmally abandoned, through no fault of his own

As Jonathan Swift stated, ‘Every dog should have his day’

And I won’t give up, until I find this one, a loving new home

When I first brought him into that compassionate animal hospital

The girl behind the desk asked me what we should call this orphan

I blurted out ‘Lonely Dog,’ and she immediately wrote down ‘Lucky’

She now also wants to bring this canine’s undeserved misery, to an end

There are so very sadly, so many abandoned canines, just like this one, out there

Who need someone to once again care for them, and to once again, be their friend

Please find it in your own heart, to visit an animal shelter, in your own community

Please help us to now bring the misery of all deserving dogs like Lucky, to an end

what a pretty boy he is, amazing what a little food and caring can do, and how lucky we are to have unconditional love from dogs, cats and other critters who continue to be forgiving even after being so mistreated.

can you show his before and after pic so that new readers can see the change? or point to the previous writing where his before pic is posted.

hope he is soon living in his forever home with people who love him.

The month of August, in Italy is "vacation month," and every year, people abandon their dogs and cats on the streets, rather than take them with them or find them a place at a kennel or a veterinarian during their vacation. It just breaks my heart. Thank God for people like you, Ed.
