“I'm writing this email in hopes that even one person will go to this area and rescue one stray dog. There are so many, and they are always there. You will find mixes and purebreds of all kinds: boxers, labs, shepherds, pit bulls, bull dogs, rottweilers, dalmatians – mostly larger dogs. But, you'll also find small ones, and plenty of puppies, too. Some have mange, some have broken bones, and some are pregnant. Some are emaciated, and ALL ARE HUNGRY.
Some will come right up to you, and some will run the other way at your very sight. They live in wooded areas, and in dark alleys, and in abandoned houses, and they travel through ditches, and across busy intersections, mostly at night. They get hit by cars, and they keep on going…..they scrounge for food scraps, desperately trying to survive.
None of them want to live like this.
They are scared, and hungry, and lonely.
They want to be saved, and have a home.”
A Message from Houston’s ‘Corridor of Cruelty’
We thought we had seen the worst case scenario
Of ‘left behind’ pets, after Katrina, in New Orleans
But I, and many others, around this vast nation of ours
Sadly know, our nation has now grown horrendously mean
Just about every city and town, now has these ‘dumping grounds’
Where extremely cruel human beings, now abandon, all sorts of pets
Our abysmal economy is driving our inhumanity to new levels of horror
And very sadly, the few people who still care, see no signs of any relief yet
And those of us who do still care about this increasing cruelty to ‘man’s best friend’
These extremely sad days, have very few places to take these animals when rescued
More abandoned pets now being taken to shelters, are being put down, then adopted
More and more homeless animals go from a life of misery to their deaths, far too soon
If you still care about America’s increasing number of animals without a chance, today
Please consider adopting or fostering one forlorn pet that is starving out there, right now
Please consider joining an animal rescue group in your own area of our now cruel nation
Please urge everyone you know to adopt – not shop; so we can end their misery somehow
This abysmal summer, I have seen far more cruelty, than I have ever seen before;
And I very sadly know when my phone soon rings, I will sadly witness, some more.
