We are very sadly finding more and more
Of these tortured animals, every day now,
All across America, and all across the world

What a sad species we’ve become
We all condone cruelty and abuse
Another example, only yesterday
Another abused dog, on the loose
Emaciated, scarred, and abandoned
So cruelly used, as ‘dog fighting bait’
Then, dumped in an alley, like garbage
A miserable, painful death, now her fate
Luckily for her, someone who still cares
Took pity on her, before it was too late
She has been rushed to an animal hospital
Hopefully to heal, and to gain some weight
People like me, are now becoming more ashamed
Of the way our own species is living life, these days
Hardly anyone, is advocating an end to animal cruelty
In fact, we all now seem to condone it, in so many ways
More and more dog fighting rings are being formed
More and more children are torturing helpless kittens
More and more people are buying dogs from puppy mills
And, none of this seems to matter, to citizens or politicians
In fact, it sadly seems to people like me, we now glorify abuse
A convicted dog fighter, is being praised, as an NFL Super Star
A politician, who brags about shooting wolf pups from helicopters
Many want to be our next President – no cruelty seems to go too far
What a truly abysmal example we adults are now setting for our children
We are indeed teaching them that the lives of other creatures are worthless
Animal Abuse now abounds, it’s being taught, it’s becoming commonplace
And, as Albert Schweitzer predicted, human life worthlessness, will be next
“If you have men who will exclude
Any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity,
You will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.”
