“Most people have now forgotten

How to live with other living creatures,

And therefore, show them no respect at all.”

Konrad Lorenz

Yet another extremely sad phone call

About yet another abused throw-away

Our disrespect for life is sadly growing

I grow more ashamed of our race today

He was lying there in a dark dirty alley

He looked like a discarded pile of rags

He cringed in terror as I approached him

He peered up at me with tiny eyes so sad

I sat down in that dark alley next to him

And I softly stroked his filthy matted hair

At first, he didn’t know what to make of this

All he had seen lately was cruelty everywhere

After quite awhile, he inched a bit closer to me

He was trembling, but he craved a gentle touch

Soon, he was snuggled into my lap, enjoying this

This abused little pile of rags, had missed so much

Although I named him ‘Rags,’ he is a different dog today

He's now very happy, playful, filled with love, and very bald

The vet says his fur will grow back, and he’s healthy again

The woman adopting him, doesn’t mind he’s hairless, at all

Under that completely overgrown coat of filthy, tangled up hair

We found a pure-bred Shih Tzu, likely purchased at a pet store

But when the novelty had worn off, his owner simply tossed him out

For some sad reason today, we humans don’t respect life anymore

We desperately need many more recruits in a renewed respect for life today,

I have also posted Pooh’s story on A.D.; many saw her, and just walked away:

‘One Man Stops, Dozens Walk Past Shivering Dog’

Our Kali is a rescue and we believe to be half shih tzu. The books all say this breed has many catlike qualities and they are absolutely correct. I think she'd use a litter box if we put one out. Patrick

As I was growing up in Sea Isle I had a dog name of Rags...but he was more of a mutt than a Shih Tzu...wish I had him today...ur area may be dying for lack of adopters, but I have tried here several times to adopt and they are so picky, they have not even called me back with regards my adoption application...I'm told that is not unusual around here...e
