“From beasts we scorn as soulless,

In forest, field and den,

The cry goes up to witness,

The soullessness of men.”

M. Frida Hartley

Music: Dances With Wolves

I spent much of my free time over the years

Up amongst The Wolves of The Great Lakes

How I truly loved, observing them in the wild

They were protected, and now their lives we take

I would joyously camp out on an island, on a wild lake

And as the moon would rise, I’d spot them on the shore

My dogs and I would very happily listen to them howling

And now, so very sadly, we soon won’t be able to anymore

Last year, our so called ‘leaders’ stripped them of their protection

And now, these lakes and woods are filled with so called ‘sportsmen’

Who now delight in shooting, trapping, poisoning, and ensnaring them

We are now rapidly bringing the days of the wild timber wolf to an end

And I get so sick of hearing that America’s wolves now have to be killed

Because they are now a threat to livestock, to people, and to America’s pets

The vast majority of The Wolves of the Great Lakes live in truly remote areas

And over the years, they have never attacked any human beings or any pets yet

All these wondrously wild and god-given creatures want, is to be left alone, to live

But as with so many other types of wildlife today, mankind covets, what they have

We crave their lakes, their forests, their mountainsides, and the deer and elk they eat

I mourn our modern day greed, and I find our penchant to kill everything today so sad

Great Lakes ‘Sport’ Trapping Season begins today Nov. 24,

And hundreds more of these beautiful and intelligent animals,

Will soon suffer and die, in gruesome leghold traps and snares.

I spent much of my free time over the years,

Up amongst The Wolves of The Great Lakes;

How I truly loved observing them out in the wild,

They were protected, and now, their lives we take.

We are responsible for all wildlife. We (humans) need to respect life. Isolated accidents do happen. I bet there are more traffic accidents in isolated areas where people are killed by fellow humans than by any wolf or shark attack. But one wolf or one shark attacks one person and it makes the front page of the daily media crapper. I will swim and I will go into the woods in the wild. If I get bit well my number must be up because the odds are so slim that that would ever happen. Long lived the beast? Today the real beast is man!

God Bless you Ed!

Between the human population encroaching on wild lands and so-called sportsmen trying to remove every alpha male from the planet, we have a serious problem that must be resolved this century or wild populations like the wolves will disappear into the tame confines of the zoos and torturous confines of factory farms for hunting sport.

Let's all get together and fight this.

I do not approve of killing of any creature
in this manner... it is barbaric! It just shows
where the laws are turning on a right to protect
our wildlife are going...

Thank you again for the awareness

they are too blind to see what the wolf represents:

Wolf is the pathfinder, the forerunner of new ideas who returns to the clan to teach and share medicine. Wolf takes one mate for life and is loyal like Dog. If you were to keep company with Wolves, you would find an enormous sense of family within the pack, as well individualistic urge. These qualities make Wolf very much like the human race. As humans, we also have an ability to be a part of society and yet still embody our individual dreams and ideas.

In the Great Star Nation, Wolf is represented by the Dog Star, Sirius, which legend tells us was the original home of our teachers in ancient times. Sirius was thought to be the home of the gods by the ancient Egyptians and is still considered so by the Dogan tribe in Africa. It stands to reason the Native American peoples would formulate this same connection and adopt Wolf people as the clan of teachers.

The senses of Wolf are very keen, and the moon is its power ally. The moon is the symbol for psychic energy, or the unconscious that holds the secrets of knowledge and wisdom. Baying at the moon may be an indication of Wolf's desire to connect with new ideas, which are just below the surface of consciousness. Wolf medicine empowers the teacher within us all to come forth and aid the children of Earth in understanding the Great Mystery and life.

I know I tend to get wordy...

Thank you for the awareness again...

To those that make the laws, where do they come from, from what assumptions do they arrive at their wisdom? Indeed, that man has the right to be the steward of all, and therefore lays ownership according to title. Those that have, and want more, such as rangers, and hunters, and and and.....their relationship to these creatures, is based merely on greed for money, and the lust of the kill, neither one a true necessity of survival; you wonder and I wonder, where compassion comes in to play, other than those of our kind.
