-->“The only thing wrong with dogs
Is that they can’t live forever.”
Author Unknown
We have just lost our dear old Scruffy Boy
Our household is filled with sadness today
He was another street orphan we rescued
Yesterday our dear old Scruffy passed away
A police officer had contacted me over two years ago
About an old emaciated dog she had seen out on patrol
She said that he was forlornly digging through garbage
Homeless, starving, and wandering out there in the cold
When we finally managed to rescue this poor old dog
We discovered his fur was drenched in toxic chemicals
I took him to my vet, where he was shaved and medicated
After several days of much needed care, I brought him home
My other former street orphans immediately welcomed Scruffy
And he quickly became one of my extremely loyal Beasty Boys
His health began deteriorating a few months ago from Lymphoma
He lost his battle with it yesterday, his death robbing all of us of joy
Our dear old Scruffy’s ashes will now reside in a place of honor in our home
Beside the remains of so many other pets, who have left us much too soon
My wife and I are at least grateful that Scruffy found some love and kindness
In the last few years of his tough life, before his time here on earth, was through

A beautiful friendship you and your wife gave Scruffy. He in return.
Much too soon. xx

It's probably a good thing that dogs don't live long. As rapidly as they procreate, especially with puppy mills, your problem would be much more difficult and the world would be overrun with stray dogs.

(No Ed, I wouldn't send that through the mail...)
I am so sad to hear of your loss.
But, am so happy Scruffy had some lovely times in the waning of his life before he began his trek across the rainbow bridge.
Maybe Scruffy has found some of my little throwaways who have also made this journey and they are all playing and happy, content and never fear hunger or loneliness again.
