Finished

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Tonight I draw a chapter to a close, and present the humble attempt of mine to have an entry at the upcoming art show. She has been a trial for this painter...I hope she is happy now. Thanks for bearing with me everyone.

Poem Artwork

Finished

She unfolded before me

From across a weary mind's sea,

She taunted and teased as she directed my thoughts

One's which taxed my very soul.

For she demanded of me…

A perfection of continuity,

She exclaimed and declared,

The direction of my stroke,

to the very color of her hair.

Oh how I would beg,

And how I would plead,

For she really did not understand,

This painter I call me.

Yet still, I must declare,

She really began to treat me unfair.

For to sleep to her you see, was not a need,

And chastise me would she

when I had the nerve to climb beneath the sheets.

So there I would lie, all snug in bed,

And I would hear her calling out into the night

Calling for a little more blue

or just a smidgen more red.

I guess that I shall never call her complete,

For she to me, has become a living entity

A persona all of itself

One that continuously wants my help.

Yet even in this, she will have to understand,

That to a writer like me, I must have a plan.

Perhaps I will paint some tape across her mouth shut,

so that I will not hear her complain to me so much.

But then again, If she keeps it up,

I will grab my jar of titanium white

And stroke her completely from the scene.

So with this said

I am calling her done,

With the exception of the poem

Which I must write

Tonight.

So goodbye Last Dance,

For I will sleep tonight.

I hope you slept well, Al, and I got to say I have a friend that could have modeled for that painting when he is dressed like a drag queen...Find peace, Ed & rufuz

Your artistry and imagination have been most skillfully painted and verbalized. The poem is highly visual as metaphor bringing your provocative illustration to life.

I hope you get lots of rest now. This is a wonderful painting and I am totally enjoying the poem you wrote to go with it. She does seem to be a bit of a devil doesn't she? Glad you took command at the end.

I often wonder how many paintings we will never see because an artist did not know when to quit.........I know in my case, quite a few in the past, now I can say stop :-)

I like the strong colour choices you worked with and the flow of the spaces. You are very talented.

I didn't realize they were so persistant in their demanding of your time Allen, bad painting, smile. It seemed toflow nice and usggested that this painting emmanated from some shores existed hot within your soul, and she too knew, where she was taken, that you had shared with her, and she not willing to totally leave this real estate, smile al

Magnificent and evocative painting you have devised...and the poem is a perfect ode to your trials and tribulations in the making of this Symbolic Masterpiece .
Your labours were not in vain...

I admit that none of my paintings are ever finished...if you asked me. I just turn the canvas to the wall and walk away else I will lead it down a path to ruin. I love the attention, in verse, that you also gave to your painting and yes!!! paintings have a soul that we give to them with every stroke. Mine speak to me as your's did taunt you. I think you created an image to haunt you. Well done and thanks for giving us a preview of your art. Now...open your doors to the rest.

Oh this is sooo inspiring. I can even think of a short story to write about this -

A painter paints the painting to live that haunts him.

Oh what a wonderful poem this is!...and what an exciting story this could be!...Just think about it...

I love the picture,it says much about the artist.
I hope when the little tag with its name is on the wall beside it that you'll have enough space to also hang this gem of a poem there too,it will make the viewer smile and it will show more of the artist's personality, that being a good sense of humour and wit too as well as artistic with the brush and imagination.
Great work and congratulations on the art.
Best wishes
