Trails Traversed

Broken paths worn and traversed.
Similes’ in life’s given worth.
Gates creak askew teetering by nail.
Passages in rites come on the bitters trail.

Winding ways by wooded streams
Crossings shallow reminiscent of dreams.
Dark trees capitulate bending across the path.
Bitters trail traversed now by the eclipsing past.

Twisting struggles cut sore the feet unshorn.

Way fraught with peril; hearts splintered slice the coming morn.

Bloody stumps remark where once claimed virgin feet.

Sinking sand on trails end delivers the wayward soul to the soft silence beneath.

Allen, I've often wondered about the crude roadways, when taken, leads to no where...paths the same way. Makes one wonder the suffering and the hardships people in the earlier days suffered. Life's struggles leave us hanging in a similar form...never knowing the outcome or what lies ahead. An excellent write!

A powerful write my friend...our lives are filled with various trails, some smooth, others rocky and rough...well done!

The first footprints of the new days were always paths of mystery for me. I loved going to Ft, Screven at Tybee very early in the morning when there were no footprints on the beach, cept for the wave runners, Sandpipers. This photograph looks like the gate and fence up on Lightening Mountain where I walked everyday while living in Missouri. It was a solitary human adventure and I met salmon lizards, big brown-eyed horses and a cow with a Number 8 tag hanging from her ear. We became fast friends. That is another love story.

Love your love story here.

Blessings!

Susan

the last verse is in stark contrast to the beauty of the image and the initial words--speaks of the wearing down of life--well expressed

I have often walked along the old country lanes of Prince Edward Island where my grandfather broke the land for the first time to farm and raise not only his crops but his family...there is nothing there now but everynow and then I come across an old fence post with a scrap of barbed wire...and I fell my ancestor's life presence
