I Don't Talk About You Anymore

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

I have tried to harden my heart…
I have tried to just let it all slip away.

I have tried to not to remember…I have tried so hard to just forget.

Yet for me not to love is akin to asking the sun not to shine.

For you know me Leah…I couldn’t harden my heart if I tried.

Poem Artwork

I don’t talk about you anymore

For twenty three years I sang your praise, but now I don’t talk about you anymore.

For you see my love; I can tell from the look in their eyes.

They in their minds heart have already said their goodbyes.

Now when I walk into a room filled within the silence of myself.

I see the same old faces that say the same old things.

Their life goes on and their love is present with the joy that it brings.

I turn on my computer at work and on the desktop your face I do see.

I look and think of all the times I kissed those lips that are forever now fixed and unmoving upon my computers screen.

I check my email and nevermore do I, or will I see one from you.

I used to love those little greetings that you would send each day.

Now, its just business; dies that need run; test that have to be made.

You know Leah…I never talk about you anymore….

except to myself every single day.

I have always said that the hardest part of losing a loved one is when others move on with their lives. It seems to happen about two weeks later... and suddenly no one wants to hear about your loved one anymore. I have often wondered...Why that is... it makes no sense to me. But you are free to talk here, and we enjoy listening to your memories and thoughts of your dear Leah...

Allen - You communicate the world of the objective and the world of the personal. Life moves on for others but you have too much richness of shared life and loss to deal with for it to pass in just a few weeks. On the other hand you have that shared richness that others cannot comprehend. Love the understated but powerful ending that makes the heart ache,

You know Leah…I never talk about you anymore….

except to myself every single day.

She is in your mind often though and in spirit with you daily, that is as it should be. You are doing nothing wrong, just thinking of her often and keeping lots to yourself too as I do with mine. We are healing slowly but surely. Great times are ahead and when we finally do meet them again in Heaven things will be perfect once again.

(((Allen))),

You couldn't harden your heart if you tried, especially now that it's broken ... take care of yourself. If you need to talk, don't forget I'm here - your friends are here - well done.

(((HUGS))) love and prayer, Karla. :(

When you finally stopped talking and finally accepting the fact that you won't be receiving anymore e-mail, it's the first part of the healing process.

A love such as yours is so strong, so it takes longer time to heal; but eventually you'll get there.

All part of the grieving process dear friend, deal kindly with yourself, and don't worry about it if you forget now and then, we are human, we must go on, our loved ones would want that. Let it just flow as it will, cry when you must, think of nothing when you need to just switch off.
In any case, you will always love her, and thats all that matters sweetie.
Took me the best part of 2 years for the worst of the grieving to go, it was hard, but I made it, and you will to.
Love to you always, take care.

Allen, there is never a need to apologize for your feelings. You have poured your heart into this write.

Never apologize to anyone for grieving. It is a personal thing, between you and Leah and God, and must run its own course. And please don't harden your heart. That is the path to bitterness. Keep writing. We'll be here when the rest of the world isn't. Rebecca

You move in the manner that suits you...no one else!!!! There are no rules...and we are not the same... Each has to deal with the loss of that love of our lives in the only way we can... so.. apologize for nothing... think of her, speak of her, and never forget her... My love has been gone 9 yrs this December...and..I've remarried...am trying hard to move forward...but that does not mean that I don't think of him when I least expect to... it doesn't mean that he isn't in the room with me...that his scent is in the room at times...or that I know I hear his little whistle...and I subconsciously look for him when I hear it... he did that alot...and I always knew where he was... My daughterinlaw and grandchildren told me the other day that they met a man in Nevada who looks just like their g-dad...and at first she was afraid she was being strange...then the kids saw him too... and later.. he walked up to them (this man is a stranger...but is he???) .... and... then my d-in-law said that a few mo's ago she was struggling with needs, and was concerned about groceries for her and the kids ... (she didn't tell me about that at the time)... and she said that one day she went to her job, and there was an envelope at the personnel ofc "someone left this for you" the HR office said to her.... and... inside was a $100 bill... with a note... "I know the kids grandpa would love to take the kids shopping, and he's sorry he isn't here to take them... Please spend this on the children."................ That was it!!!! No name or anything... but the gift was a blessing .... then another time she said that she and the kids were at a taco place and he walked in and mentioned to the kids, "Hi ladies... You sure do look nice in those new clothes..." (How did he know they were new clothes?)... Later my younger granddaughter stopped him and said, "Thank you for the money Mister, and he said.... "Oh, don't thank me... your grandpa wanted you to have it.".......... That proved that he had to be the one who gave it....but was it him or their grandpa???? These things just happen in life....and our loved ones often are going about this world comforting those of us who have lost our loved ones.... so... I hope you realize that Leah will show you over time that she is well and happy and whole and that she will never stop loving you....
Take care....and just go with your own heart.... lindalaw

You are transitioning from grief to hardening of your heart. Halt. Replace the pain with the grace of Jesus. I believe Leah lived a very happy life (I save all of your stories). These beautiful memories of life can not continue without Love...you have Love. Continue to write.

Best Wishes

Oh, no need to harden the heart--you just let it flow like a river--as Leah is flowing in your soul. I think your perspective that people have their love present--with joy--is a myth, unless of course you work and associate with a bunch of really happy people. You know, grass seems greener...and all. Flow.
