Angels In Flight

The night is black and the clouds shield the heavens of their light.

The chill of the January wind stills my soul as angels take flight.

Grappling with keys I fumble until I find the opening of the lock.

I hear the familiar click; the squeak of the door, and then I stop.

For a solitaire second I thought I saw you sitting in your chair.

I smelled your sweet essence and saw your flowing locks of your golden hair.

The warmth of the moment however quickly fades, as I realize it was just a trick of the mind.

Oh but how I remember the joy I felt in returning home from work and seeing you all the time.

Yet now I live only on illusions caused by a hundred watt bulb on a shade.

No sense or logic can be applied to these visions for they always in seconds fade.

So I speak to the empty room and proclaim to it in voice that says “Da’s home”.

My words are answered with still silence for in truth I know that you are gone.

I walk past the empty chair and in my heart I wish that you were still there.

I wonder why…and yes often I will still cry, and I will proclaim…oh God, this is not fair.

I then set down my lunch on the table that I failed again once more to eat.

I rued this day like almost every day for it is only the silence I now greet.

I had so much love left to give… oh so much love with you my love to share.

All you had to do Leah…all you had to do was live; for all your loads I would bare.

I sat down now at the table and I pondered before the Lord so many things.

And I prayed once more to God like I did twenty three years ago that He would once more joy to me bring.

“Lord I prayed…it’s me again…and I come not to even ask you why.

Because you know Lord I got this big ole heart of love still left to give.

And all I ask is that you let me of my love that you so generously gave…give it to another one more time”.

Then there was a hush…then the wings of an angels touch.

There was a strand of golden hair and the scent I loved so much.

It was then once more I saw Leah sitting in her comfy chair.

She smiled as if to say it’s OK and then…oh then she wasn’t there.

Beautiful, Allen, and I'm glad to see you're back here again. The pain lingers --- mine does too, especially after a really tough Christmas season --- the beauty and the memories never fade!

My continued thoughts and prayers are with you,
Jill
