Poem Artwork

The Cafe Window

From a cafe window I look towards the mountains in the west.
Storm clouds grow in angry billows as my heart drifts on the hot wind.
Drifting...drifting towards another whose soft smile brings out in me; the me I know best,

For once upon a time I thought I had forever lost this part of me.
The part that lives deep in the heart, the part that loves unconditionally.
Yet by His grace and by His goodness which comes from heaven above.
I have once again discovered that I have not lost my ability to unconditionally love.

So from this cafe window I sit and quietly dream.
I think of walking in the gentle rain,
And I think of the smile that has captured all of me.

Sometimes, especially through trials in life, we often think that we've lost a part of ourselves....but it's there...maybe "sleeping,"....we just need only to look a bit to rediscover it. Beautiful writing, Allen.

So relaxing and soothing...I like the way you expressed "From a cafe window I look" (receiving) and from it also comes "I have not lost the ability to unconditionally love" (giving.) The final lines "And I think of the smile that has captured all of me" reflects hope, that like the window, the door of your heart has opened once again. Beautiful.
