Love & Promises

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

There are many things in life that cause our hearts to despair. We can give in to these feelings and embrace the darkness, or we can seek the light, which is built on honor and truth. If you are reading this then that means you are alive and if you are alive then you too have had your own share of life’s bitter cup. However the secret to overcoming this lies within your own heart. One has to love and to love unconditionally, to give of yourself without expecting anything in return.

Yes…it is easier said than done…but who ever said life was easy? You must cling to hope, you must believe in dreams, for to give up on hope, to dismiss dreams is to subjugate oneself to embrace the darkness and throw your own pity party for the remainder of your days…. so therefore dare to dream…dare to believe and go for that which you know is born of the heart and always…and ALWAYS LOVE….

Love & Promises

I have walked through fire: I have drank of life’s bitters cup , and oh the woe I’ve seen.

Yet where there is breath there is life and life is beholden to the promise of dreams.

Though the darkness has laid snares fraught with peril along a path of many sorrows.

I strive; I live; I believe, for in hope there is life, and in life there are many dreams.

When one soul sees the blackness, which consumes like fire the intrepid night.

I see beyond the shadows; I feel the passion in my heart that points to the light.

If you could but read the lines drawn in secret on the chambers this joyful heart.

If you could but dissect its inner source you would find nothing but love in its purest form.

For as God is my witness in this world often built of confusion and disdain.

My life’s map has been drawn out before the very foundation of the earth was lain.

Its course; its direction, its very source undefiled and patently plain.

Therefore no matter the obstacle, no matter the trials,...I/ we must in patience overcome.

I will with resolution of spirit refuse the darkness and in the fullness of light seek..yes seek.

I will make good on my promise to the one that my heart knows I truly love.

So sleep now in peace and know that our day will come.

Know that beyond a shadow of doubt that joy will be found as we become one.

For a promise is an oath and a promise is something this heart will never break.

Because I stand now on this hope, I stand on dreams and on the golden shores of our tomorrow,

For this heart of mine for YOU,  OH FOR YOU will patiently and lovingly wait.
