In The Still of the Night

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Over the years I have made many friends online…some have died; others have just simply faded away and a few remain steadfast in every way… know that whoever you may be…with me your memories stay.

Poem Artwork

In The Still of the Night

The stark silence of the night brings back forth the images of distant dreams.

Faces assemble, captured by memories which now and forever sleep.

Some I know only by name, others to which I know by the beat of my heart.

I knew them all once; some I knew better than others, some still live and other sleep in the dark.

Some I only knew by their screen name, yet now they too are dead and gone.

I have discovered in the still of the night that my online friends do not live in a magical box.

I have learned that they are as real as the sun that shines upon my face.

I have discovered and felt in truth the trials that they too in the darkness chase.

Thus to those of whom I may never see, know that your life has influenced me.

I read your poems; I hear your silent cries, and I am always here for you.

Grace now be with us all as we face the dawn of a new day.

Remember thou me as I do you in the still of the night…and if I should cross your mind….PRAY.
