Giving It Over To God

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

There comes a time in everyone’s life that we must learn the true meaning of letting go and by faith give it over to God. Often this is easier said than done. Yet trust is the key here…you either trust God to carry the burden, or you don’t. Again, and I reiterate, it is easier said than done. In less than two weeks the company that I have worked twenty plus years for will be laying off another forty five workers. Word has it that they are to keep some of the younger and more talented workers thus weeding out those who like I who have some age on them and their usefulness to the company has come and gone. It is greed that and the love of money that has soured this, our great land. I cannot change it…but my God can.

I admit my weakness and this bothered me to the point of a spiritual sickness, which will manifest itself into one that is physical. Tonight I had to at last acquiesce. I had to surrender and humble myself before the Lord giving it all to Him. For He says in His word, that we are to lay our troubles at His feet. He says that His grace is sufficient, and that we are to put our trust in Him and not man. Am I concerned? Why yes, for I am human, and being human I am weak, yet by faith and faith through Him I am made strong. I have for years sacrificed time away from family for this company. I have lost so much precious time that I shall never regain from those whom I have loved, and to what profit? Whether I stay or go is no longer a concern to me, for this is bigger than I am, yet my God is even bigger, and He shall make my way if I only truly let go and Give it over to Him.

Giving It Over To God

Knots like baseballs form in my stomach as the weeks of a lifetime draw to a close.

Anxiety and depression steal my joy at the very thought of from my work being let go.

Dedicated I’ve been, yet with me and all, we have to this face someday our last call.

For months I have seen the signs; I hear the rumble of thunder and see the handwriting on the wall.

I have fought the good fight with all my human might.

Yet I shall not even come close to a victorious win.

That is, and unless, and unto to the Lord God I give in.

Thus tonight I have in my spirit turned this battle over to my God.

I am nothing but dust; I am just a whisper on the ever-present wind.

Yet He is my God, and I must learn to trust Him until the end.

Such trusting is very good and sounds like you will get throught it with God's help and turn to a better life too. We all go through changes we don't like or need but God does know best and things will be o.k. Trusting is the key word of it.

You speak so much mature and steadfast wisdom here, Allen. There is no easy answer, but then Christ in Gethsemane had to sweat it out as well. As I have read all your words of preface and poem, my heart breaks for the mixture of emotions that run counter up and down. You have given much for this company and it, in its turn, has kept your family and loved ones financially secure during all the times that you had. You may feel that gratitude is not a sentiment that is uppermost in your mind towards them right now, but grace most certainly is - and grace shows mercy. This firm is not responsible for the length of days you and your family have or have had alloted to you. In my own experience, once I have let go of any sort of ill-feeling or resentment, then God has been able to come infinitely close and perform his miracles. I know this is tough and I don't mean to preach, but I know you will understand my meaning, because you are a man of deep integrity and inner honesty. The other thought that has struck me as I read is that God has plans... we may not understand them when our life has been completely in a certain groove, but the end of one line may just be God's way of introducing another strand into the fabric that is the beautiful tapestry of your life. He may well have better things for you. As you admirably say, Trust is the key. Forgive my ramble but I hope you hear me wishing you only good things. It's so good to be reading you again and knowing that God is mightily pleased with your love and faithfulness. Bless you, Allen. Go placidly and with confidence. I pray that all may be and go well with you into the coming days ahead. xx

J. Allen,

Very thought provoking. I suppose we all have to look at the next life whatever that may be. Well written.

Perhaps God will prevail upon your employer to make it realize that younger does not equal talent and that useful has many facets. Good luck. Patrick
