Just a thought upon a dream that fell from the hush of angels wings.

I Gave Myself A Funeral And Nobody Came

Alas my day had come and my eyes closed unto eternal sleep.

Near, yet from afar I saw a shiny coffin without mourners to weep.

A solitaire gravedigger stood by the coffin in the open field alone.

He wiped the sweat from his brow and lowered the coffin into its final home.

With the coffin and dirt now in place, he walked away with sadness on his face.

Too many times, oh too many times has he done this when nobody came.

He, after reaching the cemetery shed grabbed a single red rose and returned to the freshly dug grave.

He stood in the silent field which held lost secrets and unknown desires.

He placed the single red rose on the mound of red clay, and in his mind he heard heavens angelic choir sing.

He wept silently for a Stranger that he never knew.

After kneeling by the grave and saying a soft little prayer.

He walked away in the stillness of the evening soft and fair.

Though present, yet not, I could feel this old gravedigger’s pain.

I watched him walk away; head hung low as the skies opened up as it began to rain.

The light soon began to draw me away from this solemn grave of which nobody came.

I wept not that I was laid down alone with no one to send me on; no one to weep.

For I am now at peace; my journey is now done.

I walk now with my Lord in the eternal presence of God’s only son.

Though I am now gone, though nobody to my sendoff came.

I rest now beneath the wings of HIS amazing grace.

Oh Allen, this is an amazing piece of poetry..Sometimes we all think that no one will come to our graves...I will be surprised if it truly happens...You are a good soul and many, many people love you.

Much peace, love and light,
Amber

PS can you dream of happy things next time???

Powerfully poignant and thought provoking ... reminds me of a joke. A woman, in making her funeral arrangements, tells the funeral home director she only wants women pallbearers. When asked why, she tells him, 'No man asked me out when I was alive. Why should they take me out when I am gone?' Well done, (((Allen))).

(((HUGS))) love and continued prayer, Karla.

I know of at least one person that will come to your funeral, but only if you were to offer free food and drink...;-) ed

A touching concept. I love William Cullen Bryant's Thanatopsis.
What if no one take note of try departure?

That's what happens when you outlive everybody.
