Love Makes The Way

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

With four recent surgeries and the discovery from one of those surgeries that I have cancer…I have begun to feel quite old and of little use to anyone anymore with nothing much of value left to add to the world before I too sleep the final sleep.

However as usual I am wrong for I am fortunate, I am blessed by God. I am loved unconditionally not just by God, but by a woman I too love dearly…Jan.

like my late Leah is there for me every step of the way as I will be for her…ain’t that the way love is supposed to work?

Poem Artwork

She came to me in my time of need when I was in utter, total despair.

Her smile warmed my soul; her comfort was sure, her eyes bright and fair.

I winced at first by her gentle touch because after Leah I felt dead and cold.

Yet by God’s grace and Jan’s gentle love I soon began to once again feel whole.

I watch her sleep now as I write these little obscure and transparent lines.

She looks like an angel and I ask God how this is possible twice in one lifetime.

I wish to softly kiss her face and tell her of my undying and eternal love.

Yet I shall not wake her, I shall let her rest in His peace sent from above.

Thus I ponder as she sleeps; I wonder aloud and I still my heart.

She has held my hand when I am weak and from my side she does not part.

Oh God, how blessed I am, this and every waking day.

Blessed and secure for by God, love eternal makes the way.
