I Remember When…

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

I’m old enough to remember a time before cell phones, computers and even microwave ovens. I remember back now as I grow old…for I remember when.

I Remember When…

I remember those days so long ago

when life was new and awesome to behold.

I remember endless, yes endless summer days

That played out in youth’s perpetual haze.

I remember walking the woods of my youth.

Seeking answers to life’s questions, demanding proof.

I remember old barns and the sweet smell of hay.

I recall reading dime store novels while escaping the rain.

I remember the sounds as the rain pelted the barns old tin roof.

I remember awakening from soft dreams thinking I knew truth.

…OH THESE ENDLESS DAYS OF A YOUNG MAN”S YOUTH…

Yes I do remember when…

I remember five cent Pepsi’s and tons of penny candy.

I remember picking peaches and a girl so sweet named Sandy.

Yes I remember when…but that was then.

Now that I have grown old and I have seen and lived many a thing.

I still in my mind’s eye smell the hay and listen to the soft patter of rain.

Oh yes, I remember when.

Mmm.. I can hear the rain and smell the hay.. both sweet-smelling.
But neither comes close to the sweetness of the wonderfully nostalgic walk you just took me on..

GOD Bless You, my Bubba! Your pen is the precious instrument of a genuine Southern Gentleman..

Love & Hugs, Sis
