Walking With Shadows

Poem Artwork
Marching with the shadows, out of step with time,

I allow the darkness to become a friend of mine.

I live in a mystery, for I strive in a struggle,

I search for the right answers in light of my trouble.

Though in my shadows walk, I am surrounded by many,

Each of his own, yet still alone, I struggle in this land of plenty.

For no matter which way I may turn,

Lessons of life in this shadowy walk I learn.

I learn of love, which is of glories light,

And I learn of death, from the darkness of night.

Yet even still, I travel on, with my shadow in tow.

for it is an ever present reminder of the night that I now know.

For time I once thought of as my friend,

Something that I thought would never end,

Yet now with each passing day with its muted grays,

I watch, as my shadow grows, and now I finally know…

It is when the light and shadows twist and blend,

that my struggles in this mystery of life finally end.

Someone once told me that, "if you keep your chin up, you cannot see the shadows." I really enjoyed this piece, I felt the sorrow. Beautiful write.

Excellent work again. Hits deep, especially for those of us whose shadows are growing longer. The picture is awesome.

Oh, Al, the picture itself is so wonderful, it almost "outshadows" the poem, LOL! But that I loved as well! Are you getting better, or am I getting worse, LOL? As always, Peace from, Ed & rufuz

I could feel this write as the shadows
entwined, my friend. Your talented pen
wove a delicate tale of darkness and light.
Awesome doesn't say enough for this write.
It's incredible!

Wow Allen, this is so heart wrenching, yet so beautiful!

"For time I once thought of as my friend,
Something that I thought would never end,
Yet now with each passing day with its muted grays,
I watch, as my shadow grows, and now I finally know…
It is when the light and shadows twist and blend,
that my struggles in this mystery of life finally end."

This is exquisitely penned!

Love, Sheila

J. Allen...I wish you peace and contentment
in 2004...and most definitely...freedom from
any shadows that tend to make you think in
terms of 'finality.'
You are a fine poet...keep on writing!
