"a little child shall lead them"

Poem Artwork

I'm not very political.  I don't know about you.

But I seldom think about it 'cause I have so much to do.

I won't spend my every moment to conform to this or that.

I just do the things I need to do to keep my own life intact.

I know men give their lives each day, they say to keep us free.

But if I live my life only for them, then thats not liberty.

I could never spend all of my time at  church or at the polls.

I don't need to control others; I'm not into saving souls.

I won't base my life on politics or vain philosophies,

Because I'm much too busy living it  and doing as I please.

You can call my words sarcasm, or any other kind of art.

But don't think  I don't mean each word, they're written in my heart.

A life built around politics or religion to me seems

To be a life that's built on fear of what the future brings.

But I live by the things I love and people I hold dear.

I try to learn the way things work; I have no time for fear.

Someday this world may go insane and blow itself apart.

Or men might travel to the stars and make another start.

And if someday the world goes mad and evil soldiers come.

How would I ever stop them,  Just A Boy Without A Gun?

But I might build a rocket ship, pretend it's just for play,

and blast out to the galaxy and still live my own way.

I'd take all sorts of people, animals two by two.

We'd build a world where people do the things they love to do.

There wouldn't be no taxes, for what we have we'd share.

We wouldn't need no money, just water, food and air.

We'd all be pretty happy, but even if we died,

We'd know we died just living out the things we feel inside.

Good folks don't need no Super god to make them do what's right.

And kids don't need no boogy man to scare them in the night.

Good folks can know for certain that the devil isn't real.

He only comes to evil folks who kill and rob and steal.

And good folks live in heaven nearly each and every day.

They carry it inside them, just like games the children play.

The earth does not belong to men.  Men belong to the earth.

She nurtures us and feeds us like all mothers who give birth.

Religion, politics and greed are the cause of every war.

After familys give their sons to die, they still struggle as before.

We fought one war to end all wars, but wars go on and on.

We've fought wars on poverty and drugs and and so far we've won none.

Preachers and politicians tax the spoils and give back naught.

I thank you sir, but I'll just keep what I've already got.

So if the world should someday go mad and blow itself apart.

Remember us who'll travel to the stars to make another start.

What makes a great Poet is not the number of pages she/he writes, but the number of people she/he can inspire.

Yes, Lonny! I love the voice you wrote this with.. the feel of it.. it's like a peaceful, but no-nonsense protest song.. Great minds truly DO think alike: one of them's is yours.. t'other one's is mine! and we aren't alone, either.. em.. could I have a window seat? (wink) Thank you for a most impressive and honest piece! love, katy xox.

Magnificent, Londis!! Always it come down to the Golden Rule, and the added wisdom that its premise helps us grow as it guides our steps through life. We all can't be heros, rule-givers or saints, but we can pass on compassion and humility. :)

I've come to realize that in life there is what is just and right...and then there is reality. Too bad the vast lot of us aren't able to share in your vision. We all want a better place, a better life, but so few are willing to do anything to help achieve it. Keep reaching for the stars and inspiring the minds of anyone willing to listen to you.
