Starting out with hope and joy

The future calls with wink of eye

Ecstatic view of ‘Life ahoy!’

In which their love can all but fly

Hope filled days that come to pass

Lush and green like blades of grass

Side by side new path they tread

Adventure born in every stride

Oblivious to what lies ahead

Then suddenly her dream’s belied

And all the lush green blades of grass

Crack as though they’re made of glass

As time goes on his manner’s changed

His sulky nature comes to light

As tantrums fly, her love’s estranged

Whilst all he wants to do is fight

And promises of love that lasts 
Turn to mounds of shattered glass 

Mighty man-child starts to spew

His petulance so fierce and raw

Such arrogance his point of view

So thoughtlessly his word is law

His temper quick but slow to pass

All reason turns to futile farce

Engulfed by all his selfish gloom

Her calm is, in the end, opposed

His disposition fills the room

‘til tenderness is decomposed

Whilst golden love fades into brass

She’ll tiptoe ‘through the field of glass

Thus, in the twilight of its course

Our lovers drift e’er more apart

Friendship, faith and trust disperse

Abandoning a broken heart

And vows of love like lush green grass

Lay dying ‘mongst the shards of glass.
