A night at the Circus - A story in rhyme.

.

Poem Artwork

I took my seat and watched entranced
While Acrobats in suits of gold
Stood on hands while ponies danced
'round Circus Clowns grotesque and bold

A drum roll boomed 'Attention Please!'
The spotlights moved up overhead
'Presenting, Ola's Flying Trapeze!'
And there she was in spangled red

Her partner swayed to fix the pace
While Ola soared to dizzy height
She swooped to meet his firm embrace
A fiery phoenix in full flight

And as I watched his swing repeat
She flew across the canvas sky
They had me there on edge of seat
I hardly dared to blink an eye

He whirled and reached to catch her wrist
His fingers barely met her grasp
'twas not enough, the catch was missed
The crowd below let out a gasp

Her body plunged toward the ring
The masses looked on in despair
A shape appeared from in the wings
And blazed like fury through the air

'He'll never reach her', thoughts as one
Whilst mighty flyer arced his swing
It seemed slow motion had begun
And bated breath was faltering

Her body tumbling faster still
As flyer flipped to match her speed
Closer, closer now until
Their paths must cross, he might succeed!

At first no witness to the catch
All thought her flying days were done
But then the spotlight moved to snatch
Two flyers in the air as one

The crowd let out a mighty roar
Triumphant music rose to tease
As flyers touched the sawdust floor
And took a bow for the Flying Trapeze

My heart beat fast my brow perspired
'Was that a trick?' my mind implored
I left that night, my soul inspired
And vowed to write a worthy laud.

'...A WORTHY LAUD...', INDEED! A FINE WORK...I WAS THERE WITH YOU AND I WAS ON THE 'EDGE' WONDERING IF SHE WOULD BE CAUGHT. BUT OF COURSE, SHE WAS...AND I DO BELIEVE IT WAS A PART OF THE ACT. I ENJOYED THE IMAGERY SUPPORTED BY A GREAT RHYME SCHEME. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS & FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
