The battle within...

Poem Artwork

As night time hours parade and mock

The need to shield thy precious space

The ache for comfort and seclusion

Mingle in that wretched place

The ‘need for peace’ and ‘want of love’

Battle on in vengeful Spite

But where to find like-fated soul

To comfort in this hour of plight

Thus, favoured solitude is tainted

Dulled by lonesome twilight hours

A brief intruding, craving, longing

A wish to share thy ivory towers

When hand of night breeze reaches in

And stirs the mind stretched out in sleep

Rousing dreams and endless forms

Which cause once peaceful minds to weep

Oh gallant knight just hear the tale

Of this shy damsel’s sorry case

She’s likewise fated in life’s choices

Though fair of heart and fair of face

She has no wish to bind thy feet

Nor crowd thy precious shielded space

She only seeks thy soothing arm

At midnight in that lonely place

At dawn your sanctuary be yours

To share or keep just as you choose

But at night a friendship, understanding

Is what thine hermit would peruse?

With dawn comes peace and solitude

A joy in glorious private space

A tapestry of thought and vision

Which another’s words would fast erase

Such is her search for gallant knight

Who‘ll deign to leave her whole and free

And somewhere in the clouded night

A kindred heart doth hold the key

Doth thou need a key for the knights armor,
Mayhaps she'd do better with a local farmer,
This write certainly is quite a charmer...e

A gallant knight and a damsel in distress - a timeless tale, indeed.
