I didn’t know life was so harsh

Or human beings could be cold

I’m stuck in here, my short life past

And yet, I’m only two years old

Where once I would be shown with pride

And treated as a much-loved gift

When my precious owner died

Those days were gone, my life adrift

And now I plead for one more chance

To show you how much I could give

How both our lives would be enhanced

If only you would let me live.

American artist, Mark Barone, is now hard at work, painting 5,500 of these portraits of abandoned dogs, mercilessly killed in shelters and pounds across America, to raise awareness about their plight, and to *Promote Adoption*. You can see these paintings on the wall on the website. (Link below) When he is finished, these paintings will reside in a museum. It is hoped that this campaign will continue to raise awareness (for all animals) and reach out world-wide.
