With heart of a lion and strength of a bear

One man, dedicated to his cause

Stands firm ‘gainst trials of the abused

Comforting sad and weary paws

Every day, a problem new

And every day, he sees it through

Bountiful in heart and soul

His silhouette means help’s at hand

Though they mistrust all human form

His efforts make them understand

Not every man is a source of pain

Here lies the chance to love again

In weather foul with winter’s bite

Their saviour looms out of the mist

And should they flee in abject fear

The opportunity’s not been missed

When next they look he’ll be right there

To offer warmth and love and care

What drives this man to feel their plight?

What’s in his heart that’s different?

He sees the truth of our selfish world

And making change is his intent

Changes that will render calm

The cruelty of our human charm

Where kindness takes the place of chill

Compassion fills the void of hell

Where every woman, man or child

Endeavours to enhance the spell

Each one of us could play our part

And lighten the load on one man’s heart.
