...inside the Pinball Machine

Poem Artwork

When first impelled into affray

Towards chaotic sounds at depth

Hurtling down that tunnel, dark

The thruster leaves me void of breath

And as I burst into the light

Where buzzers loud, compete with bells

Electric charges taunt and call and

Snidely snatch in spates and spells

Whilst bright lights dazzle, daze and daunt

I ‘m flung from pounding pin to post

And just when breath seems imminent

I’m thrown again in smart repost

‘Til finally a path is sought

Between demanding deathly snares

I aim towards that sanctuary

Beyond chaotic crazed affairs

And there within my straining grasp

A void of calm invites me in

I reach that foyer’s open arms

And …………….suddenly I’m flipped again

Back up into that wild affray

To madness, mayhem, manic train

No time to grasp a fleeting thought

Before I’m carouselled again

Betwixt the pulsing gears and wheels

Whilst lightning charges singe and burn

Confusion sparks and bursts aflame

And spins my head in deadly spurn

Exhausted …but there’s no respite

Eternal seems to be my fate

Inside this hell’s electric mire

All reason fades to blackened state

Then finally I fall to rest

When all around has dulled and died

The foyers arms both cold and dead

Awareness gone, my senses fried.

Are you certain this is a ball in a machine or is this really what life is to us all...? -e-

A wonderful thought provoker for those times when we ponder the subject. Yes, life can be like a pin ball machine... sometimes, too much so. Liked this a lot.

Had to share this fantastic message that I got :))

i read your poem and i own a pinball machine i purchased 40+ years ago. i have not played for a while and have it "up for sale"; however, i just played a game in ur honor. i was gentle with the flippers!

i will never see that machine the same way again ... omg, my friend is somewhere in there!

Many years ago I used to flip and guide that ball in bump and run circles and crazy angles while bells rang and lights flashed, and I racked up a score with a payoff in the $5 to $10 range. I was the master of my craft, and the money held life and limb together. Never in my wildest imagination did I suspect a poet would re-kindle those days of yore in a way that brought back that slice of life in the most improbable and delightful way. It was a wacky ride but I loved it. Bravo!

Hah! Been many a year since I last went bonkers over a pinball machine. You gave a very credible take on that horror called the pinball machine.

I'm amazed at your wording in this chaotic, yet very realistic life of a pinball that could very much be a metaphor for a person going crazy (rather than the many specific diagnoses around). The only thing comparable is the wording in the classic Who opera Tommy, in Pinball Wizard, who happens to be the master torturer of the poor little pinball.

Bravo for your insight into the human need for chaos, turmoil and pain.

Ron

Say Something Terrorible v3 by RickthePoetWarrior

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
