I find that moments of silence help me rearrange my thought processes and relax like you mentioned in your poem. Although I dread the possibility of becoming totally deaf and in silence all the time. When you refer to "oblivion" it seems to me that you are trying to escape. One form of escape is reference to some other life. I'm content with the one that I have.
Ditto what John said. When I sit down to write, I prefer silence around me. It allows me to concentrate. Having said that, silence may be golden, but any other time I'll take the sound of laughter. It's life fulfilling.
