A poem for lent

Today is Ash Wednesday, a time to reflect
on how I can be a better Christian
It is a time to curb the excesses in my life
not because of deprivation from a church rule
but because it gives me a deeper understanding
of simplicity, appreciation, and the great sacrifice
that Christ has made for me through His great fiat,
saving the world, he saved you and I ...
Rather then give up something tangible today
I will offer Christ my company . I will walk with
Him to the end of the road and keep watch
until His resurrection day.
May the Easter lily that is seeded securely in this
season of lent become my one true flower, my Iris.
During this sandal walk with Him my forehead will be
a cradle for his ashes and a thumb smudge for His
heart.
I will be his faithful Peter & wait for Resurrection
with patience, kindness and Holy intent.
