Scratchboarded stars of liquid light pouring in like rain
beneath the cupola of heaven one sentinel of night
A solitary figure stilled by the mutany of a willful hoot
his head is bowed as he listens, pressed to the dark
A Universal ensemble of nightly vocation, owlish wise
he knows not to disturb the hour, as he turns right on time
Earthly vibrations of the lowest kind everyone is sleeping
but not everyone is blind, head bowed he listens to ...
Insiped in velvet, browny eyes of amber flame and light
beneath the humdrum moments of nocturnal sweep,
the owl is breathing where no man has yet trespassed
the owl heeds, the ebons of nocturnality-delights
Scratchboarded stars of liquid light pouring in like rain,
beneath the cupola of heaven the Sentinal, of night .

Owls spend most of their days comfortably sleeping on a high branch of their liking. I have come across them like that. But at night, they are voracious hunters, particularly of songbirds in the nemesis of birds that flock together in roosts or rookeries. They also seek rodents and animals as large as rabbits. Screech owls eat insects. I had screech owls come in from winter storms down my fireplace chimney and into my cottage. Easy to take back outside by merely having them perch, almost weightless, on the end of my broom.
Why people like you love the night and owls are called night owls. ;-)
I agree with John about your first line. You also create an air of mystery with the unique imagery you've chosen. Owls are my favorite in the bird kingdom. In California there are many different kinds. Right outside our windows, Great Horned Owls, and Barn Owls, hoot away most nights, and in the higher elevations (above 6000 ft.) the Great Grey Owl is occasionally seen. An interesting painting you've showcased. Looks like the guy is praying, or perhaps huddled against the snowfall. Enjoyed. Peace... r
These song lyrics and art are tales, tides and twinkling lights - tunes telling stories of warmth and sun, city and sand, paths that lead, and the coins we can keep in the Karma Bank. Spirit's been bypassed for sorrow, dreaming of a better tomorrow .
