Its the last rose of summer here blooming alone
with all her companions now faded and done
no flower of her kind is left behind to grow
no reflection of her blush or her afterglow
soon I too will follow her through every ray
before loves bow and arrow begins to fray
when true hearts lay withered and once flown
who would want to inhabit this world alone?
No not I says the rose no not I says the Sun
who is captured by the colors of her bursting scent
he who has lived in her loving grace as One ,
says yes to the last rose of summer , "life must go on"
even the Sun sets when the last days of life are gone.

As mild as our winters have been here lately, my rose bush keeps blooming into Dec. I planted it under a bay window, and i think that helps protect it, and allows to keep blooming so late in the year.
It is so good that most roses are perennial. And also good that with modern transportation, we can have roses anytime of the year without requiring greenhouses to keep them warm during the winter.
