Watching the festive tree light up the room I gladden
like a tiding shifting from the present moment to the past
Remembering the happy smiles that grew upon our faces
as the season approached with all its glitter and bustle
Tinseled moments overlaid as memories turn golden
by the fitted hugs of mom and dad and all I held so dear
Skies of reddish hue falling gently on the Christmas tree
landing on a Child Of Love, nestled softly in a manger
Breathing in the Hope, we sang with peppermint voices
carefree as the wind that blew upon our Christmases
As I recall the Christmastides of old I rejoice in the thought
that the Christ of yesteryear, still shines in me today.
Yesterday mom stayed at home without a thousand things on her mind. She had dad bring down the trimmings to reuse until they had broken with time. They will remembered for many years, so she hung them with care for little eyes and ears. And when the Christmas time was over, she carefully picked off every tinsel strip and put it in its folder.
Your poem reminded me of how much my mother put into Christmas for us. That tradition is fading fast.
As children: those first dozen or so Christmases were the best. They are imprinted in me. "we sang with peppermint voices" Considering the peppermint breath I had from all the peppermint sticks I gobbled, this was a reality for me. Haha. Enjoyed this Vienna.
