My Neighborhood held a community garage / yard sale this past weekend.
Before the dawn on Saturdays
these sages of treasure hunting
hop into cars and seek out signs
to find driveways full of bargains. Some bring along well chosen friends
while others coherce husbands follow
and some do venture out solo
but all proceed sign to next sign. When upon that sought after find
they do stumble, a haggle starts
some win the prize others pass by
the joy must be within the hunt.
BELIEVE ME, IT IS, BUDD. I KNOW, BECAUSE I CAN GET PLEASURABLY 'LOST' IN A SECOND HAND STORE AND WHEN I AM PASSING A GARAGE SALE OR OTHER OUTDOOR SALES(WHICH USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE NO MONEY)I HAVE TO ADVERT MY EYES. Yessreee, just like the shopping addiction, only cheaper. If you get up early enough, you can find some fine stuff in yard sales. I just never have. When picking a couple of times trying to find parts for my '35 Ford hot rod. found a '32 Ford grille shell that the farmer gave us free. Yippee!
I must confess I do love going yard saling, it is such fun when you discover some treasure from your past or something you need but at half the price.

Smiling, I prefer Estate sales since I am an Ebayer. I had a garage sale once... let me say again "once." I am laughing, I was bombarded at 6:00 a.m. by droves of people and I was still in my pajamas setting up in the garage as they walked in the side door! My sale was not to open until 8:00 a.m.
They can be rather pushy impatient sorts and I had to flush them out and asked kindly if they would return at 8:00.
They are an interesting lot I must say and do enjoy haggling!

Akin to children turning over rocks in the forest hoping to spot their own private discovery. Your poem says much about our adult need to revisit such innocence.
Eh. Something I have NEVER participated in. I'm positive I have missed out on finding a number of fortunes by my dereliction of duty to the garbage sale bonanza!
