Frigid winds scream their woeful dirge
'cross barren lakes and ice parched earth. River's currents bestalled in place
create visions of nature's wraith. O'er the blanket of winter's white
gleams the hue of frosts harsher might. Zither and lyre being heard
through bare icicle shrouded limbs. Every heart that can is sheltered
be it fur, feather, scale covered. Nature has roared her icy pall
leaving all's plea for warmer climes.
Well portrayed Budd!! I love the look of snow and that's about as far as it goes. My one crash in a car was in Austin, Texas when it snowed and rained later that day. The roads were like a sheet of black ice. My car spun down a hill out of control. Wham! Pow! Zap! It was a fender bender but for others it was much worse. So much for the snow...
Wow, Bud. Reading words such as these, Reading your words make me so happy to be living right where I live... In Southern California where our winter morning temps standing at 42 are considered really cold. Matter of fact, waiting now till 7:00 when it's light enough to take Mushi for his morning walk... I better bundle up though because it's all of 47 out. Burrrr!

Having survived the so-called Polar Vortex we've got five inches of snow expected tonight. But, it is January after all. You gave us a vivid picture of winter and a delightful photo too!
Very well done and each line is thick with frost and feelings.
Hope there was an artificial sun used like a generator which could warm up and melt away all that snowfall in such places during this bleak cold period!! -roseline

That poor little dog. Mine look just like that when they come rushing in. They don't want to be out any longer than they need to.
This poem covers winter's chill and snow perfectly. I enjoyed reading it.

It was a most horrific week - if only every fur and feathered heart had been sheltered - far too many frozen birds and frozen pets in my neck of the woods.
Dear Budd, You are kind and gracious for your visit and your comment. I read your poem where you show your honest feelings. It is cold ,here too. Congratulations
You sure echoed my thoughts with this one, Budd...well done! Our country is an icebox and I'm an ice cube...giggle...we Canadians gotta be tough to survive our winters...
The winds blowing and the ice cracking is a lullabye as long as I'm listening to it all cuddled up inside. Thank goodness many shelters have been set up for the homeless.
Brrrrrrr!! Your words really do convey so well the iciness and the bleakness of the freezing scene you present...
I swear my temperature has dropped a couple of degrees!
