Stay away from small desert towns!

Poem Artwork

Dusk holding haze in one place
Hovering fog watch your step
Lurking below something smiles
Drooling leaving a foul trace

Slithering as the haze lifts
Where? Truly nobody knows
Desert town someone is gone
Must have got lost in the drifts

No questions only one way
Those in this small desert town
Hope that the haze stays away
Trancelike go on with their day

A wonderful but creepy look at a ghost town. I saw something very much like this on TV a couple of days ago. Good one, Jane.

I can picture clint Eastwood standing alone in the desterted main (only) street, black hat, poncho, cigarillo gripped between his tight lips.
Loved it.

been in many small desert towns including quite a few ghost towns, they have the feel of which you speak so clearly.

Could be any small deserted town. Could be a snake, they slither. And why are the people trancelike?

Perhaps we are talking about people trancelike in the great expanse of Midwest drought clinging to old ideas in a trance like daze of the same old same old routine, continuing the way they always do, nothing in between. Don't see the snake for the sand.

I know all about those small desert towns, having lived in the Middle East much of my life. Beware the dust; it hides secrets.

HOLYMACK!!! That's one hell of a desert inside a bedroom!
Hmmm... Is there a corpse underneath all that desert sand?
This is a thought-provoking poem! I love it!
