Oh, dear...he has YOUR checking account information (for the direct-deposit)? Contact your bank to be sure no other transactions are made by your employer other than the deposits! Often, it takes a few days for your bank to clear D.D. checks; but what does D.D.s have to do with "being in the mail"? Besides the other suggestions, you may want to contact Unemployment office about not being paid so you can be re-instated for unemployment cks. Praying all works out for you, Ed.

Don't get upset, Ed, if you can possibly help it. It will only tire and frustrate you further. But daily keep a check (I'm sure you ARE!) and politely go tell him that the cheque that is "in the post" has not yet arrived and surely it can't take this long and if it hasn't arrived within the next couple of days, could he please write out another while you stand over him and wait... Polite persistence is perhaps the key and then he can't accuse you of anything other than your honest reasonableness - and tenacity! Shame you have had a previous experience of such dilatoriness that already makes you alert and restive.

... But, having just read the other responses, perhaps it's a bit different your side of the Pond! Kick up, then, if need be, but I would first find out if other employees are having the same difficulty - if so, then this needs to be sorted PDQ. If not and you want to hold on to this job until it has a chance to stabilise, wear him down with all the door-knocking insistence. Hang tuff, Buddy xx

It sounds to me like he's been playing this game for a while. I think Roger Ochs is on the right track, but I'd try to find out how many other people have been through this same thing with him.... Then get them to join with you when you turn him in to the Labor Board or whatever they are called in your state. Generally they are pretty tough on this sort of thing and if it's happened before or is happening to more than just you, it's that much more serious. Better to sit at home with no job than to go to work for no pay. At least at home, you can write us more poems..... What ever you decide, Good Luck, Dick

OOOOOOO!!!! This is not good. When an employer begins to pay you late, then it's time to look for another job. I'm so mad that some employers would do this knowing that the employees may need the money. He should be very honest with you whether or not he can continue to pay you. My gut feeling is that you may want to try your luck elsewhere. I'm sorry this didn't work out as your have planned.

Ed, below are two very good advices, one from Mr.Ed and the other from Jasmin. In any case, if you are afraid of losing your job remember, if you aren't paid you have none, just one sucker more for that S.O.B.

i agree, you have done the work, you deserve payment-there should be a paper copy of the deposit-ask for it

Just in case, borrow something very expensive from him if you can, then if things go sour, or he keeps on refusing to pay, keep it in lieu, try it, use your charm, or the strong arm of the law.

Unless I'm doing volunteer work, I expect to be paid for my services. If you're supposed to be paid for your work, and you're not being paid, I would raise Holy Hell. You might want to start with the Better Business Bureau in your local area, and talk to other employees, to find out if they're not getting paid, either.
