Sorry to seemingly whine,
And for my mis-spent youth I pine,
I never expected to live so long,
You'd think by now that with me,
I'd know for certain what was wrong...
I cannot sleep, I know not why,
I cannot stay awake, even when I really try,
I cannot seem to have much fun,
And away from myself I am unable to run…
I want to go somewhere, though I know not where,
My mind keeps racing, to where I don’t much care,
My life does seem to pass me by,
Not even to myself can I lie…
Diabetes, depression, kidney failure & an artificial heart valve,
This is all I seem to have mentally & physically,
I have to look at myself quite altogether quizzically,
I want to go back to work, the money I do need,
But the doctors say no, what could happen I ask,
They all just stare at me shaking their heads critically…
All good advice below. I remember when my neurosurgeon told me, "Don't drive. I'll take your driver's license away." My physical therapist, a woman, thought that the old, foreign guy's order was way too harsh. So I got myself retested with a restricted driver's license. That was 500,000 miles ago. His paranoia came from fixing the cracked heads of many automobile crash victims. Of few years later he had a near fatal car accident.
You have to leave the apartment and interact with people. Maybe take a free course in something you're interested in. A job may be too stressful, but one like a greeter at Walmart probably won't be. Try to find something part-time where you meet people that Is low stress.
what's wrong with you is nothing you can control very much, so do go find a job, get busy and you'll probably forget that you are ill and lonely. Hard work does pay off, you can find something to spend the money on.
Get a job Ed. As Ruan so aptly said, start interacting with real people. I truly believe you would feel better about yourself. Hell, I've been thinking about getting some kind of work myself.
There is little that is worse than loneliness (I know) and the fallout from that is never healthy - But don't over-estimate your abilities. It may be that you feel okay 'because' you are not very active...
What you need, Ed, is a very **LIGHT**, part time job to get you started and enable you to interact with real people - then see how you go.
