Derelict old ladies...

Shore bound for eternity,
 
No more waters to cool her hull,

Her engines removed, her life blood in tanks empty,

In her day she was a beauty….
 
 
Shiny woods, chrome & stainless,

She did cut the waters with power to spare,

People on shore or other boats could only in envy stare…

 
 

She sits now with other unwanted derelicts,

She has memories of her young years,

Times of gaiety & charm on Chesapeake waters,

Now she does just rot away,
 
From her decks to her keel,
 
This is life in the real.

I can hear her creaking and that is a comforting sound. She is groaning her own demise. 'Enjoyed!!

A great metaphor for those wrecked or neglected. Rusty hulks left to rot in place and float no more. A subject you know well and can convey with determination. Conjured up the thought of many other derelicts I've seen in my travels.

Life can be too real. This poem can just as easily be about a person as a ship.
