Progress or Greed

To paraphrase Shakespeare:

Alas, poor Sea Isle City, I knew her
well...

Poem Artwork

 “PROGRESS or GREED?”

              Old homes of infinite beauty

                Homes of wood & glass,

Those where I spent many a childhood hour,

                Torn down, carted away.

To be replaced by those, supposedly, of

                better class,

Condo’s running amuck is Sea Isle’s harm,

All for the love of money,

                Greed taken to the extreme.

All I can do is express dissatisfaction,

For this is the way of the world,

And with that, I have only negative reaction.

                                                                                (ed)

Ed, I use to live in Pennsylvania in an old home, old wooden floors made the old way, the window glass still the original... it was amazing and wonderful... those old homes are rare in other parts of the country, and I totally agree with you... can never go back...

Bear

I miss Sea Isle as a childhood home, & I know all the arguments regards progress and the future and all that, but other towns with similar situations have existed with the older homes, in fact have made those older homes showplaces and have not built condo's etc...

I guess whoever said it, "One can never go back, everything
changes..."
