Having no kids, and wishing I did, to some degree, but glad for their sake I don't...can't explain it any further without self-incrimination...

I Was a Kid Once Too…

Yeah, I know, hard to believe,

I was once a kid also,

Growing up thru the usual,

Problems with fights,

My teeth,

Long hair,

All the stupid things we know now to be true ,

Never, then though, had any trouble with my sight.

Sure my parents were nothing but grown up kids,

Not knowing how to deal with children,

Never having been properly raised themselves,

But having kids anyway, hopefully, these will right,

Any wrongs done to them as well.

I didn’t till after my 20’s passed,

Clean up my act,

To become what I am in fact,

A lot more mature, I think,

Than that of my folks, at that time,

But, also, that time was a much more naive time,

When parents thought that,

A beating for the kids every now and then,

Was where it was at,

Or at least so did my folks,

And most others I knew.

Old shows show that fact, even now,

When Freud would be happy to see,

That his theories are finally be used,

Children are no longer just a hindrance,

They are just little adults, having to learn the right way.

I have no kids of my own, fortunately or unfortunately for them,

Never had the urge till just of late,

Now with all the meds I take, I guess I cannot have them,

But, actually, at almost 50, I find that I would not want too,

As they wouldn’t be 10 till I was sixty,

And that would be no fun for them,

Hard to teach him/her all they need to know,

Ball playing and such,

When I have now, even a hard time to take a stand,

Let alone doing so as I know I will, and…

Hey, Ed--you were kinda cute! Ya never know how young having a child can make you. But I can relate. Kids having kids is not good; losing discipline is not good; losing respect is not good; getting old is good--we mature in so many ways, but yet revert back to childish acts. Will we ever grow up? I doubt it! b

Ed.. with the insight, the forgiveness, the generosity you show to your own parents here... yeah.. I think you can call yourself a grown-up, mature and truly smart!... BUT.. don't lose the inner child.. listen to him.. he's how we get through some of the grown-up stuff they throw at us in life.. sanity is directly connected to your ability to be playful at times.. (Lecture No. 37 by the infamous katy! grin) You're great, Ed... writing is also a good outlet.. thank god, you've discovered that within yourself. Wonderful sharing of yourself here... Thanks. katy xox.
