Reading a handbook of Hindu Mythology. As stated by the author "Behind the mythology is a myth. Behind the myth a truth,an inherited truth about life and death, about nature and culture, about perfection and possibility, about heirarchies and horizons. This subjective and cultural truth of the Hindus is neither superior nor inferior to other truths. It is simply yet another human understanding of life"- Dr Devdutt Pattanaik.

Poem Artwork

 Before all things came desire

And it is the restlessness of desire

That led to  creation, hence the world

Kama, a dark and handsome archer

  God of sensual love,passion, desire

Fills  air with romance

  Rouses the five senses

 Fresh blooms offer pollen

   pour nectar at his feet

  Five flowers as the  arrows

The shaft of sugarcane is his bow

The sap of life is so sweet

The bee seeking the nectar

Is for the wonderful delights worldly

Its  sting serves as the bowstring

The lovely  parrot is the chariot

The red beak of the parrot

Is for hope for good happenings

The bright green in its feathers

Stands for   fruit which will  ripen

It is desire along with hope

That bears the fruit of one’s likening

So love keeps blossoming all the time

 pay heed to hearts rumbling

never crush it for that will stay

"

 Before all things came desire

And it is the restlessness of desire

That led to  creation and hence the world!

What a great story of creation. No doubt much truth in it since desire does fuel the need to create. This poem has a gentle feel to it. I enjoyed reading it.

From what I read, the Hindu religion never left the Garden of Eden… For that I am grateful.
