I was heading south
A local train would take her home
In Grand Central Station there was magic
Stepping off the escalator she falls
People and dignities pile up
All flee except a young Southerner
Offering strong hands as she gathers herself
Moving out of commuters' way
We introduce and talk
Anxiety melts into laughs leading to dinner
I go home with her on a late train
And spend the night warm and happy
After an understanding mother calls us early
We tell our long night story about trains
I thank Mom for my very own room and bed
The same room and bed where now
The daughter as my wife... and I... sleep
When we visit with Mom in Philadelphia
This was a great write Bill...from beginning to end...It reminded me of my husband and I when we first met...he lived in NY and I in Florida and he doesn't fly...therefore it was the train stations! I would wait in anticipation...and wait...and wait and then I'd see the train coming down the tracks...
