Dogwood's Splendor of White

One of nature's best areas of
Southern dogwood trees is in
the hills and mountains of
Appalachia, which includes
North Georgia - bursting with
pride in late spring weather.
My favorite is one only yards
from my front door and in
full bloom from every branch.
Each cluster of white is as big
the US flag off my front porch.
In a good wind, today, they
waved to me when I left home
and, again, when I returned.
This tree in white splendor,
puts other whites and pinks
to shame flowing in the wind,
telling those who stop to view
that its blanket of white is
the best from decades of harsh
weather and natural enemies.
A mighty survivor has waited
for me and I am its protector.

Splendor is right, Bill. I love dogwoods, and miss them.
Dogwood is the state flower in Virginia (where I grew up),
and we have a few up here in Jersey. I'm glad to see that
North Georgia dogwoods are in good hands. -gene.

I like what this mighty Dogwood brings out of you, Bill. The notion of being its Protector is both a cerebral and sensual response. What I love about Dogwoods are their red bracks in winter; like skeletal fires amid the deadness. Beautifully observed. TY Kate xx
