When Alison Came Round To Tea

© Sara L. Russell, for Alison

In days when Alison came round to tea
It seemed that anything could so amuse,
We both could sit and giggle endlessly,
Only our parents' records sang the blues.
We hardly could look in each others eyes
Without collapsing in scarlet-faced fits
Of mad hysterics; nothing could disguise
Our silliness. We were tickled to bits.
Sometimes we would walk out looking for boys;
On finding them, we sniggered even more,
Then her first romance ousted other toys,
And all the madcap days that went before.
These days I often think of my old friend,
But some bridges are difficult to mend.

To Alison, I hope we can meet up and chat about old times one day.

But some bridges are difficult to mend.

Now THAT's the way to end a sonnet,
with a BANG!

Wonderful!

Shows how long it is since I visited Sara. Shows how long since you posted anything too.
I agree with Janet's comments except the bit about childhood coz blokes aren't giggly or at least not until we start getting hair in funny places (but then how could I not agree with Jan - she kick ass with the best)

Dear Sara,
I just found my best friend that I had in High School and we have been having the best time catching up even though she lives in Kansas and I in Hawaii...email brings us as close as neighbors. Your poem was touching and the photos added a warm remembrance of my own youth...Lovely...Connie

Sara,

This took me back to a childhood friend. Thank you. :) The rhyme scheme and meter is good.

Sara,
These are friendships of the Most precious kind. I am so sorry you lost this friend. They can only last into adulthood when both have some sense how priceless it is. If you see Allison one day, perhaps the gap that seperated you can be set aside and you can pick up where the two of you really left off. Vicky
