I don't find villanelle a refreshing form of poetry. Its structure and repetition are annoying to me, keeping me from focusing on the better parts of the poem. In this case, I think you are lamenting that people have learned from the lessons of the past and keep repeating them by wishing that they could turn the clock back to what they think were kinder and more simpler times. You and I know that's not true and easily proven by a little education.
