~*~ How often have some of us been misunderstood ?
When we have been hurting, and we have tried to explain, you may have them answer .... "I understand" ....but do they ?
Dear Sandie, (Sorry I have to post this up here)
I agree, let the reader relate to it.
But by my understanding, because I put a message on the top, this has then swayed your impression on the poem ! Somehow though, I believe that it is my perogative to explain if I so desire.
Thank you for your comments Sandie, and whether it is successful or not, really makes no difference.
Warm hugs
Elga
Spring of Sadness
Pain hurt sadness lies and abuse I look around, it's no use reaching out to touch someone immediately the fights begun Misunderstood ! hurt once again ! It's okay I see the end. The novel; complex read Insightful ? painful! a time will come when all alone then reflect, who they did hurt! pages turned more to learn yet chapters not fully understood perhaps they never will who sees these chapters come undone ? gripping from the very start, pages turned... to pain endured the author then perhaps... the only one ?

Someone once wrote a song about pleasing everyone at a "Garden Party" and yet another record artist sang about doing your own thing. Misunderstandings are as frequent as sea foam on breaking waves. You've penned an excellent piece. Don't be swept away in an undertow of sadness. Smile, because you're you.
keep writing--because you love to, because you have to...you are being read and your poetry is touching millions
this is no exception. POWERFUL emotive piece you've penned

I guess this happens to all of us.
We write something, people interprete it differently.
But so what?
We mainly do it for ourselves-and our friends will know what we wanted to share.
Good one.
Oh Elga! I can relate to your beautiful, soul-bearing words here on so many different levels! We write because we "have" to! And, as you know, I have voiced the frustration that sometimes even I myself am not quite aware of what it is I am stumbling to express; so how can we possibly expect anyone else to fathom it? On the other hand, even putting a "jumble of words" on paper is maybe articulating the same thing to someone who understands the feeling - or, conversely, they may be struck by your write completely differently. But does it matter, as long as the Reader IS struck, moved and affected in some way? Not wishing to shout about my own stuff, but my "The Poem As A Rose" speaks about just this sort of thing and has a "borrowed" quote from another author's own homepage... so, like we seem to all agree - that's just the "life" of poetry and the creative mind, I guess! On a completely different tack, yup, it is painful when there is no emotional connection between people who are "close" but are still not able to find the ability to communicate at a foundational level without somehow causing offence. With you all the way, Babe! TY - love the new biog page, BTW; some of us are just open books and make ourselves vulnerable, Elga - just the way we are! Kate xx

Elga, this is a very prolific write...in most part what you have written is indeed true...a poet is what a poet creates and then strives to become by his or her own hand...I try to live by these words...excellent poem...Fletcher B
you only hurt yourself if you allow yourself to take anyone's input personally ... always strive to achieve your best no matter what anyone else has to say ...

I agree with Mountain Poet wholeheartedly!
And will add my own favorite expression here:
"I live in my own little world...but that's okay...because
everybody knows me here."
All poems are journeys and some of them go nowhere. But that's all right because, for some of us, nowhere is a comfortable place. Whether we understand them is not important. What is important is that you continue to strive to express yourself. No matter what anyone says.

I understand this one very well. I'm feeling it right now within my heart and I'm crying out. I feel like no one cares. Thank you for sharing this. It is a gem.
Oh I wholehartedly agree with Eileen:
"hopefully they will be understood. If not then that's
poetry isn't it? Not everyone gets it!"
thats the beauty in poetry...you only think you know what the author means unless they tell you otherwise.
A big lesson from my english teacher over a poem. he asked what do you think the author meant" i told him what I thought and he told me that I was wrong....oh that pissed me off
Beautiful bittersweet poem Elga! Superbly written!
I have come to the conclusion that my poems will stand
as I write them, and let the chips fall where they may.
We all have the right to post our poems as we wish, and
hopefully they will be understood. If not then that's
poetry isn't it? Not everyone gets it!
Quite poignant, Elga. Most of us probably mis-communicate something just about every day of our lives. And when it involves matters of the heart, this mis-communication can be truly painful.
The authors always feel the pain. It is difficult for others to pin-point what goes on in the authors mind.
Being a reader, I must say that I can only read a poem or story that can is somewhat relating to the lives of people in general. We all want our voice to be heard, but in some cases...I, too, write a poem which some people do not understand, and then I have to explain it.
The point is we write, and let the readers interpret it in their own minds. That's the best. In cases that they did not get the poem, then it's not necessary to explain it either. A peom, whether it is successful or unsuccessful depends entirely on the first reading and reaction from the readers. If the readers can relate to it, then it is a successful poem.
Best Wishes,
Chuckie
