For of all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: "It might have been!"

John Greenleaf Whittier (1807–1892), U.S. poet.

We might have been!—These are but common words,
And yet they make the sum of life's bewailing.

Letitia Landon (1802–1838), British poet and novelist.

Still, I feel Love

There’s a melancholic turmoil within
As a cloud of sadness hovers above
With a constant breeze of pain that blows
Then saline raindrops begin to fall

A sense of failure stalks and consumes me
As profound as a bottomless hollow pit
Like a starless sky, the void’s so starkly immense
Desultorily I stumble across unknown terrain

Reaching out grasping for something familiar
Encountering but a featureless blank emptiness
Despairingly I cry and call out your name
My voice falls silent in this prodigious expanse

My heart bubbling like a boiling cauldron
And rumbling, rolls landscapes of my mind
The boom of thunder echoes in my ears
And my body with seismic tremors convulses

Like an earthquake my emotions erupt
And the pain ravages like a raging fire
Consternation crashes like blue bolt lightning
And my body slumps into silent desperation

Yet; there is no anger fermenting
No acrid bitterness I taste
No hate that harbours sullenly
Only love encompassing the four corners of the world

Dear Elga,

When you feel Love, nothing else matters. Send it out to the four corners of the world and it will encircle you like a never-ending stream.
