Just in a cowboy spirit mood lately I guess...

Poem Artwork

Straw Hats and Cowboys

Crumpled old straw cowboy hat

A strip of rawhide for a band

It’s shape no longer matters

Twisted and well bent by hand

Sweat stained brim on the inside

Holes tattered here and there

Knocked about and stepped on

So many stories it could share

Could have bought a new one

You know time and time again

Maybe even a brand new Stetson

But it just wouldn’t be the same

He likes the way it fits just right

Like some sweet old lovers hug

How it covers up his bald spot

A lot better then a fancy rug

Now he dusts it off and puts it on

Always knows exactly where its at

On the spike beside the cabin door

His good old ragged cowboy hat

Creature of comfort are you, Fee. Hard to beat nything old and comfortable and broken in...like a great pair of jeans...even if you get new ones, they are never quite the same. And if that hat or those jeans could talk......:)
Happy New Year!

Old hats and boots always seem like they should have so many stories to tell. This is a wonderful poem, Felix and it really sets the mind to wandering...between you you and Kate B., tonight my imagination has been taken on a wild and magical ride. Happy New Year to you and yours!

"Straw Hats and Cowboys"
Very well written Felix, I enjoyed it.
Even had a tune in my brain, could actually hear his voice.
As a matter of fact I became the character, funny but true!
Nothing like the old familiar...like a good ole' fashioned love song.

Cheers and cowboy hats,
